Romig, Robert W., Ph.D. Age 90 of Roseville passed away Nov. 4, 2019. Preceded in death by his wives, Sherry and Judith. Survived by daughter, Claire (Brad) Roberts; son, Dan Romig; grandchildren Brenna and Brooke Roberts; sister Margaret Lytle, and brother Larry McClelland. Private family interment at Ft. Snelling. Celebration of Life November 24 from 4:00-6:00pm at Jax Café, 1928 University Ave. N.E., Mpls., 55418. Bob enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was a veteran of WWII. He was stationed in Japan and then in Germany where he was part of the Berlin Air Lift. He kept the planes' radar systems in working order so the mission could continue. Bob earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University, and from 1957 to 1962 worked for the Rockefeller Foundation in South America advancing scientific, sustainable food production. He set up the USDA Cereal Rust Lab at the U of M St. Paul Campus and worked there for seven years. Next, Bob went to Northrup King Seeds where he was Director of Research. Retirement didn't suit him, so Bob started Trigen Seed LLC, and once again found success in his life's true calling as a wheat seed agronomist. At age 81, Bob sold his company and finally retired. In addition to being a distinguished scientist, Bob was known for his intelligence, storytelling, and kindness. He was a lifelong learner, loved to travel, and spend time with his family.
