Whitney, June Roe 98, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2019, at Friendship Village, Bloomington, MN, where she had lived for a number of years. Her children, Roger R. Roe, Jr. and Charles J. Roe, were at her side. June was the daughter of Agnes Burr and Rutherford Burr who predeceased her. Her older sister, Lorraine, and younger brother, Rutherford, Jr., also predeceased her. June is survived by her sons, daughter in law, Paula Roe, granddaughters Elena Roe Sparling (Ken) and Madeline Roe Spensieri (Brion) and great-grandchildren, Everett and Damon Sparling and Alma Spensieri, all of whom June loved deeply and cherished. She was very proud of her family. June grew up in Minneapolis, attended Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota, and became an elementary school teacher. She was married to Rodney J. Stone, Jr. briefly who lost his life in naval flight training during World War II. June married Roger R. Roe after he was discharged from the navy in World War II and they had a long, successful and happy marriage until 1982 when Roger passed away. June met Sumner Whitney not long after both of their spouses passed away, eventually married, and enjoyed life traveling the world, until Sumner passed away in 1999. June was extremely intelligent, resourceful and obviously resilient. She dealt with much tragedy in her life with grace, poise and dignity. Thankfully, she also had a lot of fun. She made a wonderful, elegant home for her family, took great pride in the education and success of her children and grandchildren, and greeted her great grandchildren with much love. June had a long, eventful life, which was filled with much joy and success. She leaves a remarkable legacy in her progeny of whom she was boundlessly proud. She was loved by many and she will be missed. Services are pending, but will be only for family. Memorials should go to the organization or charity of the donor's choice.
