Herberg, Mary Ann Inez (Molacek) Died Aug. 19 at Masonic Home in Bloomington at age 90. She was born on Ground Hog's Day 1929 to Anton and Christene Molacek in Riceville Township, rural Callaway, Minn., and raised on a farm there as the fourth youngest of 13 children. She outlived all of her siblings. After completing her schooling, she started the next chapter of her life in Minneapolis, where she met her husband, Robert Carl Herberg. Matt's Bar in south Minneapolis played a key role (long story) in their romance. They were married in 1956 and soon after came three kids. The kids were raised in south Minneapolis and then Maple Grove. Bob and Mary bought a retirement lake home near Pine City, Minn., in the early 1990s and they spent summers there while wintering in Lake Havasu, Ariz. After Bob's health declined, they purchased a home in Pine City in spring 2001. Bob died in September 2001 at age 74. Fiercely independent, Mary led a good life in Pine City and lived there for 16 years. She enjoyed gardening (loved to talk about her tomatoes), quilting, knitting, watching Minnesota sports teams (go Twins!), feeding the birds, visiting the North Shore and going to casinos (usually came out ahead). The Catholic faith played a big role in her life. She was active at the Pine City Legion and VFW posts and the senior center. When her health declined in 2017, she moved to Apple Valley to be closer to family. Mary Ann is survived by son, Tom (Ariane) of Apple Valley & daughter Tammy (Rick) Dahl of Brooklyn Park; grandkids, Jason Dahl, Christine (Shane) Stich, Lacee Dahl, Brekke (Thaine) Antonneau, Justine (Trevor) Frischmon & Erik Herberg; great-grandkids Brayden, Isla, Ranger, Leon and Olive. She fought until the end. She wanted to watch those great grandkids grow. Also preceded in death by daughter Teresa; brothers, Raymond, Joseph, Anthony, Leonard, Howard, Millard, Virgil and David; and sisters, Viola, Nydia, Rosalyce and Margaret. A special thanks to the kind souls at Allina Hospice and Minnesota Masonic for all the wonderful care they provided for Mary Ann. Top notch. The family will honor Mary Ann's request for a private service with immediate family only. Interment next to Bob at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Rest in peace, Bamma Lamma, as she was affectionately called by her family.
