Steiner, Robert J. "Bob" Age 93, passed away Aug. 10, 2019. He was born and raised in St. Paul, MN, and graduated from St. Thomas Academy in 1943. Bob fought for his Country during WWII where he served as a first gunner, 81 MM mortar, under General George Patton, in the Third Army 86th infantry division and in the Hodges' First Army in the European theater. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for meritorious achievements in ground combat against the armed enemy. He was a hard-working provider for his family and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. An avid fisherman, birdwatcher, arborist, photographer, and traveler, Bob had an endless appetite for current events and a true gift for quick-witted retorts. He was a grounded and humble man, whose calming influence and strength of character provided, and will continue to provide, an eternal compass for those who knew him. Preceded in death by his wife Laurie Steiner & son Joe Steiner. Survived by children Karen Steiner (Bill Dickey), Jim Steiner (Barb), Denise Steiner (Gene Begay), Jeanne Steiner Eull (Marty Eull), daughter-in-law Sharon Steiner, grandchildren Sam, Luke, Rachel, Rob, Martha, Joe, Kevin, Alex and Julia, and 5 great-grand-children. Memorial service 11 AM, Monday, August 26 with visitation beginning 1 hr prior to service at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 3495 North Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126. Interment following at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at Lilydale Senior Living for their good care.
