Eakins, Lilla T. nee Pappas 96, returned to her heavenly home on November 14, 2018 after a blessed and rewarding life. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately led her back to her Heavenly Father. Lilla was preceded in death by husband, Lyle; son, Steven; parents Paraskeve and Theodore; sister, Mary and brother, John. Lilla was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age attending St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Lilla was blessed in marriage to Lyle on December 30, 1951. Lilla lived 67 yrs in St. Louis Park where she raised her four sons with grit and determination, a testament to her patience. Lilla graduated from West High in Minneapolis and Macalester College in 1944 with a degree in English. Lilla was an educator at heart. Her immigrant mother was her first pupil. Instructing her in the English language began her teaching career that would span 45 years. Thousands of students would follow in Portland, OR, Comfrey, Waseca, U High, Good Shepherd in Golden Valley, St. Margaret's Academy and Benilde retiring at the age of 67. Often known as the "Queen of Mythology" she will always be remembered as a very caring teacher by her students and peers. Lilla is survived by her sons, Thomas (Megan), David and James (Brenda), 6 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, November 19th, 5-7 pm at Washburn- McReavy Edina Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 20th at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis at 11 a.m. with interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the Church.
