Simpson, Margaret Joan died on September 20th, 2018. Joan was born in Le Mars, Iowa on August 22, 1939. A classically trained pianist since the age of five, she gave her first recital at the age of ten. After graduating high school, she studied music at the University of Minnesota and earned her BA. This is where Joan met the love of her life and husband George Simpson of California. After graduation the couple moved back to California where they started their family and Joan studied classical piano with pianist Amparo Iturbi, sister of pianist Jose Iturbi. Throughout her life Joan continued to play the piano for her family and friends and was also a dedicated reader of all genres and all things on the subject of her lifelong hero, General Douglas Macarthur. Her laughter and her enthusiastic optimism for life were apparent to anybody who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is missed. Joan is preceded in death by her parents Hubert and Margaret Schultz, her husband George Simpson (age 55) and her son Pieter Simpson (age 39). Joan is survived by four daughters: Robin, Kelly, Poosa and Sidney; five grandchildren: Christopher, Nicholas, Aaron, Tate Anthony and Santino. Also, her two best friends: Judy and Karen and many, many more dear friends whose lives she touched. The family of "Joan Joan" wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Minnesota Oncology and to all of her Doctors and Nurses at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
