Michael John Geheren

Geheren, Michael John of Duluth, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2019 in his beloved Duluth, MN surrounded by his loving family and close friends. Mike was born in Benson, MN on August 25, 1938 to Thomas and Dorothy (Welsh) Geheren. Mike and Sheila (Johnson) of Willmar, MN were married September 9, 1969 and have been blissfully married for forty-nine years. Mike and Sheila were entrepreneurs. They owned and operated The Park Plaza Hotel in Winona, MN, the Venture Supper Club near Duluth, the Classic Bowl and Super Bowl in Anoka, MN and the Potpourri Convenience Stores in Bloomington, MN. Mike was first and foremost an avid sports fan. Closest to his heart were the Vikings. He was a season ticket holder for 40 years. He spent summers at Pike Lake near Duluth and winters in Lakeland, FL. He enthusiastically welcomed any and all family and friends to both homes. In Lakeland, Mike and Sheila were known for hosting a poolside waffle brunch for friends. Mike was an engaging storyteller and will be fondly remembered for his good humor and one-liners. Mike is survived by his wife Sheila and children Greg and (Mary Lou Huff) Geheren of Mahtomedi, MN; Cindy and (Bill) Thurston of Anoka, MN; Troy and (Linda) Geheren of Anoka, MN; Mike and (Lauris) Geheren of Virginia Beach, VA; Stefany and (Brian) Dolmat of Virginia Beach, VA; Patrick Geheren of Atlanta, GA; Mark Geheren of Anoka, MN and his twenty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mike is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Donald and Dan. A celebration of life for Mike will be held in July 2019 at the cabin at Pike Lake, MN.
