Loftus, Owen Daniel At the age of 15, Owen passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2018 in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital due to complications from treatment for Leukemia. His family, Godparents, and special friends were at his side. Owen was a gift from God, born prematurely at 27 weeks, weighing 1 lb., 5 oz. Owen lived life to the fullest and was always thankful to God for giving him life against all odds. Owen was diagnosed with Leukemia in June and was undergoing an aggressive treatment routine which involved many hospitalizations. Owen handled "the Lukey" with dignity, grace and humor and was a pillar of strength and an inspiration to everyone. Owen's motto was that things could always be worse. To every extent possible Owen did not let Leukemia limit his activities. Owen was a sophomore at Cretin-Derham Hall, and loved being a part of the band, swim team, and Ultimate Frisbee team. It meant the world to Owen to be able to attend school when he was able. We are forever grateful to Ms. Novey for accommodating Owen's needs so he could participate in band camp in August with fellow "bandinos". Owen was determined to live as normal a life as possible and worked hard to meet his goal to march with the CDH band in the State Fair parade, carrying his base drum in full uniform. We are so thankful to everyone at CDH for the grace and kindness shown to Owen and our family through this journey. Owen was a Boy Scout with his beloved Troop 9626 in Shoreview working toward his Eagle rank. Owen was able to attend the week long camp at Tomahawk in August after just completing a round of chemotherapy. Owen loved being with his fellow scouts and working on his cooking merit badge with his camp mom, Mrs. Rafter. Troop 9626 is our second family and we will never forget the support we received from the troop leaders, scouts and parents. Owen was a huge Oregon Ducks fan and loved bowling, golfing, shooting hoops and playing ping pong. Owen was a kind and gentle soul who lived a life much too short. Owen will be remembered for his infectious smile, wicked sense of humor and the kindness he showed to everyone. The Boy Scout in Owen would want everyone to "Do a good turn daily" in his remembrance. Special thanks to Dr. Erik Brockman in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital for his compassionate care. Owen will be missed by his beloved Golden Doodle puppy, Hutch. Owen was predeceased by his grandfather LeRoy "Bud" Engel, and is survived by his parents Dan and Susan, grandparents, many special aunts and uncles, cousins, and special friend and fellow Hoopster, Hudson.
