Marilyn Berg

Berg, Marilyn Freeman Munson 1934-2018. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Marilyn Berg, a longtime resident of St. Paul, MN, left us for Heaven June 15th, 2018. She was born in LaCrosse, WI, 1934, and was the youngest of Agnes and Walter Munson's three daughters. She grew into an intelligent, slender, blonde-haired and blue-eyed athlete. She excelled in swimming, a skill that served her well in co-founding the St. Paul Catholic Athletic Association Girls' Swim League, and coaching the girls' team at Highland Catholic for several years. An exceptional writer, she earned a journalism B.S. degree in 1956 from the University of Minnesota. She later landed a job at the prestigious Campbell Mithun advertising agency in Minneapolis. After that, she worked in the U of M's School of Business placement office. She later spent many years as a volunteer with Catholic Charities, helping to improve scores of lives in her community. Marilyn wed Norbert Berg in June of 1957. The marriage produced four sons: Kevin (Jennifer); Mitchell (Dana); Tony and Paul (Jennifer). She was the love of Norb's life, and he, hers. They were dedicated to one another and to raising their children. "Far and away, my greatest blessing in life has been my wife," Norb said. "Boy, did I get lucky!" Marilyn is preceded in death by Agnes and Walter and her sister Shirley. She is survived by her sister Janice and by Norb, their sons, daughters-in-law, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Marilyn's mark on the world lives on in her family, a wide circle of friends, and every person who benefitted from her love and grace. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, June 21, at 10:30 at Lumen Christi, 2055 Bohland Ave., St. Paul. Visitation prior to mass from 9:00-10:30. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Arbor at Carondelet Village for the tender and compassionate care they provided to Marilyn.
