Ryan, Francis J. Jr It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Francis James Ryan Jr. of Grand Rapids, MN, who passed on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the age of 74 years young at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Jim, as he was known, was born in 1944 to Francis Sr. and Clarice Ryan in Hibbing, MN, attended Hibbing schools and lived there the majority of his life. He graduated from Regis University in Denver, Co. Following in the footsteps of his father, Jim was an entrepreneur at heart. Beginning his career at Ryan Companies and later a partner at Ryan Brothers Transfer and then later owning and operating Ryan Omnidyne. In 1999, Jim was united in marriage to JoAnn Nelson and they enjoyed his last years living in Grand Rapids, MN on Lake Pokegama. He loved being on the lake whether it be boating, jet skiing, pulling kids water skiing and tubing or just enjoying a ride around the lake with family. Over the years, other favorite activities of his were golfing and snowmobiling with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, JoAnn, and he took extreme pride as a father to Stephanie (Guy Coffey), Jennifer (Dan Bailey), and Elizabeth (Chris Govrik). He was a fun-loving grandfather to Trudeaux and Kane Coffey, Jake, Steffine and Louie Bailey, and Malec Govrik and stepfather to Elisha (Jon Cleveland), Zach Sindelir, Jessica (Earl Ortman) and a wonderful grandfather to Oliver, Ben and Nina Govrik, Grant, Casey, and Jack Cleveland, William Sindelir, Zachary, Stella, and Hadley Ortman. Jim is also survived by his four sisters, Susan (John McCarthy), Peggy (George Crolick), Jane (Wallace Campbell) and Marilyn (Peter Mulvahill); and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be Thursday, June 14th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a rosary service beginning at 5:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN and visitation will continue at church on Friday, June 15th from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial also at St. Joseph's. Fr. Jerry Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN. If so desired, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or St. Joseph's Catholic School.
