Mary Ida Johnson

Johnson, Mary Ida Age 93 of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018, with family by her side. Mary grew up in Sioux Falls, SD where she attended Catholic School. She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing in Sioux City, IA. Her first job, as an RN, was with the Polio Foundation moving state-to-state tending to patients during the polio epidemic. She married Jay Willett and had 5 children with him. When asked what was her favorite thing in life, she responded immediately, "My kids." Mary went on to work as a surgical nurse at Mt. Sinai Hosp. and HCMC where she met her second husband, Norman Johnson, M.D.A. Norm and Mary loved to laugh, travel, play bridge, and go to estate sales. Most of all Mary loved to spend time with Norm and her children. Mary is survived by her children, Vicki Willett, Michlyn (Bruno) Zagar, Jayne O'Conner, Daniel Willett, Martha McCabe, and grandchildren, Dane and Allisun Zagar, Chelsie Willett, Erick and Tait McCabe, many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Norm, her mother, father, and brother.
