Khabie, David passed away early Tuesday morning. He was a husband, father and father-in-law of 10, grandfather of 13, and adored by his siblings, nieces and nephews across the world. David was born in Damascus, Syria and landed on the Northside of Minneapolis, by way of Beirut, Lebanon where he met and fell in love with his wife of nearly 54 years, Lili. His dream of coming to the United States was made possible, in part, by Sam Maslon, the founder of Maslon law firm. Expecting the birth of their second child, and only daughter, The Khabies boarded a plane for the US with only the things they could carry. They left much of their life behind, including close relatives who they never lived far from. They eventually landed in North Minneapolis and with the help and support from the Jewish community, they came to understand and appreciate Minnesota Nice despite not not knowing any English. They raised their five kids (4 boys and a girl) in Saint Louis Park as American-made without losing site of their strong Sepharic heritage and an appreciation of what it took to make their lives full. David worked as a tailor with stops that included Justers, Dayton's, Marshall Field's and Macy's. He tailored suits and made custom creations for Minnesota businessmen and celebrities including Kirby Puckett. He helped establish a Sephardic minyan at Kenesseth Israel Synagogue so he could pray with the same melodies on the Sabbath and Jewish holidays like he did growing up in the Middle East. While he may no longer be with us physically, his spirit will be a guiding light with us for the rest of our lives. Funeral service was held. Hodroff-Epstein 612 871-1234 hodroffepstein.com
