Anderson, Mary Louise (Burke) Passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2018. Mary was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on February 4, 1938 to Thomas J. and Louise Burke and was the oldest of three siblings. She was the granddaughter of John Burke, former governor of North Dakota and Treasurer of the United States. Mary graduated from Bismarck High School in 1956 and went on to attend the University of North Dakota where she graduated from the College of Nursing in 1960. At UND, she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and was the Dream Girl of Theta Chi Fraternity. Quentin Anderson and Mary Burke were united in marriage at St. Georges Episcopal Church (Bismarck, ND) on September 24, 1960 and enjoyed 57 loving years together. Mary's nursing career began at the University of Minnesota Hospital in pediatrics. After Quentin's graduation from medical school in 1962, they moved to Philadelphia where she continued her nursing career at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Before settling in Minneapolis in 1965, Quentin and Mary resided in Bad Nauheim, Germany with the U. S. Army. Mary had a strong sense of duty and devotion to her family, community and church. Her active life of dedicated volunteer service included Hopkin's Schools with PTA, Odyssey of the Mind, Junior Great Books, School District Coordinator, kindergarten readiness screener, School Board Consolidation Committee and avidly supporting her boy's activities. Mary worked with the Hennepin County Medical Society Alliance chairing Body Works, an important health outreach program and chairing most areas of the program for 22 years. She was a member of the Minnesota Medical Alliance and was awarded the Community Service Award for 1996-1997. Her thirst for knowledge and desire to understand the world involved her in many diverse groups such as Bible Study, Book Club and Contemporary Arts Forum. Mary was a member and volunteer in every aspect of St. James on the Parkway Episcopal Church for 53 years. Mary and Quentin began wintering at their home in Oro Valley, Arizona in 2000 and attended St. Phillip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, AZ where she continued her volunteer service as a member of the Altar Guild. Mary was a steadfast supporter of her three sons, their spouses and her seven grandchildren; Mark (Laura), Larkspur, CA; Eric (Elizabeth), Chicago, IL; Mikael (Emi), Tokyo, Japan; and grandchildren; Miles, Katherine, Evelyn, Grace, David, Noe and Kaina. They survive her as well as her husband, Quentin; her sister, Elizabeth Lucas, Bismarck, North Dakota; her brother, John Burke, Freeland, WA; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. C. C. and Judy Anderson, Eau Claire, WI; her many nieces and nephews and dear friends. A celebration of Mary Anderson's life is planned for 1PM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church on the Parkway (3225 East Minnehaha Parkway, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55417).
