Harold I. Shapley

Shapley, Harold I. Born October 22nd, 1921. Passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018. Harold was born in Fergus Falls, MN and raised in Sibley, Iowa. He met his wife Marge, in Sioux Falls, SD and they married in 1942. Harold and Marge moved to the Twin Cities area in 1949 where they lived for 41 years and raised 3 children together. Harold was a man who always exemplified a positive attitude, was wonderfully wise, and had a true spirit of adventure. He loved building his cabin in the woods in northern MN, playing cards (gin rummy), flying small planes, spending winters in Acapulco, Mexico and a great cigar. He had a passion for hunting and fishing and earned the nickname "Harold Y-Bone Shapley" for his expertise in fish cleaning. He was a gifted salesman and wise mentor to many people. He also enjoyed great food and cooking for family and friends. More than anything, Harold loved his family. He was very grateful for the life he had and shared that feeling often with his family in his later years. Harold is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; he is survived by his 3 children, Maxine (Jim) Holm, David (Cassy) Shapley, Brennan (Janine) Shapley; sister Geri Gonzales; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren & his "up north family"- Susan and Kevin Larson, Bob Steen, Todd Gault, Don and Sylvia Steen. The gratitude felt by so many for knowing such a wonderful man is boundless. A memorial service will be held at Westwood Community Church, 3121 Westwood Drive, Excelsior, MN 55331 on Friday, June 8th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation at 1:00pm.
