Gonzalez, Salvador "Sam" 93, died at home on Sunday, April 22. "The Old Navigator" had a rich life, including his experiences as navigator of a B-17 bomber in the Italian theater of World War II. An avid fisherman, Sam plied the cold waters and rocky shores of Lake Kabetogema for many years, instilling in his sons and daughter a similar love of fishing and the outdoors. Sam, who had a long career in data processing at Honeywell, was a great dad and loving husband who will be greatly missed. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, and his daughter, Christine. He is survived by his partner, Marion Smith, whose love, companionship and care made his final years a great joy; by two sons, Jay (Janet) & Mark (Tatsumi); a brother, John; a sister, Mary Jane; grandchildren, Adrian, Rachel, Ethan and Kyle; Susan and Chad Jewett; and by many cousins and nephews in the Gulbrandson family, the Gonzalez family, and the Rheaume family. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 29, starting at 2 p.m., at Cremation Society of Minnesota Edina chapel, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina (northwest corner of France Avenue and Hazelton Rd.). The informal service will be held in the reception area of the Chapel, and will include light refreshments and plenty of time to chat and reminisce. Interment Monday, April 30 at 12:30pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave. S., Mpls. (Assembly Area #5).
