Bing married Jane Elizabeth Butler in 1960 and welcomed two children into their lives, Kristin in 1962 and John in 1968. After Jane's sudden passing in 1984, Bing raised his two teenagers on his own. The "Three Amigos," as they called themselves, forged a bond like no other. He always encouraged them to pursue their dreams and goals. Not many receive a second chance, but Bing married Emily Smith in 1990, and love, laughter, and adventure blossomed once again. Bing embraced being the patriarch of his extended family and was blessed to be an integral part of his step-children and grandchildren's lives and milestones. Bing was a well-known and beloved figure in the Twin Cities business community for decades. Bing began his career at Paine Webber in the 1960's. He is best known for his years as a portfolio manager with Investment Advisors Inc. (IAI) where he managed the IAI Regional Fund. Not only was he a mentor to the business community, but to generations of local youth through coaching football and hockey, and through his service as President of the Edina Hockey Association in Edina. Bing also passed his love of hunting and fishing to the next several generations of his family. This was fostered at the cherished family cabin "Bu-Ca-Si" in the Mille Lacs lakes region. It was not unusual to see Bing in a float plane visiting Canada fishing locations or visiting his children in Alaska. Bing was a dedicated member of The Church of Saint Patrick of Edina. Over the years, he was an active volunteer and promoted stewardship in the Parish. Bing's faith remained important to him throughout his life. He was a man of unquestionable integrity, high character, and someone who never complained. His spirit was never broken by life's challenges. Bing touched many with his charisma, wit, generosity, wisdom, bigger than life attitude, his many quotable expressions, and most of all, his warm heart.
