Atwood, Frances Ann Townshend Of Wayzata died on April 17, 2018 at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Atwood, daughter, Margaret Atwood Schuster, parents, Joseph H. and Frances (Daniel) Townshend, and half siblings Virginia, Joseph Jr., Edward B., and Jerry Townshend. She is survived by her children Elizabeth A. Massie (John) and R. Edward Atwood (Susan); by her grandchildren, Robertson, Laura and Marc Massie, Ann Massie Manning (John), Peter (Gabriela), Daniel, Christopher and Thomas Atwood, Charles and David Schuster and their father C. Martin Schuster (Martha); by her sister, Miriam Elizabeth Townshend and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Frances was born in Memphis, TN, on January 28, 1929 where she grew up and attended Miss Hutchison School for Girls. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and upon graduation went to work for a Memphis insurance company. At this time she met and soon married Richard W. Atwood on October 2, 1954. Frances moved north to Minneapolis, Dick's hometown, where they lived, worked and started their family. In 1963 they moved "out to the lake" and lived in Cottagewood for almost 50 years. Frances was an avid skier (Aspen, Vail, Steamboat) and golfer (Woodhill, John's Island). She enjoyed many other sports and activities and was a competitor in any endeavor. She was devoted to her family and life-long friends. Affectionately called "Grannie" by her 10 grandchildren and "Frannie" by her wonderful friends, she enriched the many lives she touched and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 E. Wayzata Blvd. 55391. Reception to follow.
