Roy Weigel

age 90, formerly of Minneapolis died Jan 15, 2018 at the Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Lecanto, FL. Roy, sixth out of seven children, was born on a German-speaking farm in Zeeland, ND. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, he enlisted and served the US Air Force. Roy owned Weigel Construction, Inc., and designed and built grain elevators throughout the Upper Midwest. Roy helped found LPW, Inc., a millwright company that moved and installed heavy industrial machinery. He also mentored those starting their new businesses. Roy was married to his beloved wife, Betty for 49 years. He was a wonderful husband and father, and worked hard to provide the best for his family. Roy faithfully attended Catholic masses all his life and was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus. He deeply cared about the poor, sick and disadvantaged and generously donated to many causes. After Roy retired, he joined the Germans From Russia Heritage Society, and traced his ancestors’ emigration from Germany to Russia in 1808 and from Russia to America in 1885. He loved traveling with Betty throughout the US, playing cards and casinos, investing in the stock market, cooking and good food, and gardening geraniums, tomatoes and cucumbers. He also enjoyed coffee with great friends at the Dunn Brothers in Linden Hills. Predeceased by his parents George and Mary, six siblings and wife Betty. Survived by daughters Christine and Ann Weigel, and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral service and burial will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Lakewood's Memorial Chapel. A luncheon will immediately follow at Lakewood’s Garden Mausoleum & Reception Center.
