Orville L. 'Orv' Sietsema

Sietsema, Orville L. "Orv" Orville Sietsema, age 78, passed away on March 13, 2018, at his home in Eden Prairie, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sietsema and Grace Johns Sietsema, and brother Ronald. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth, daughter Maureen (David Spies); son Michael; grandchildren Alycia Lorentz (Joseph) and Kyle Sietsema (Karina Laqua); great-granddaughter Eleanor Ann Lorentz; and brother Gordon, along with other close family and friends. Orv was born August 31, 1939, in Ackley, Iowa. An avid lover of sports, his intention following graduation from high school was to become an educator and coach. At the last minute, he changed course and decided to pursue a profession in funeral service, graduating in 1960 from Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Texas. Never regretting his change of heart, he proudly walked with the families he served in their time of need-for over 40 years, the last 20 plus years with the Washburn-McReavy team. Orv's family was very important to him. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and was thrilled at the birth of his great-granddaughter who quickly took his heart. He always looked forward to special days spent together hosting every special holiday or birthday, often preparing his infamous marinated beef tenderloin. Following his retirement, Orv remained active in his community with his involvement at church, in the Eden Prairie AM Rotary Club, and volunteering at Methodist Hospital. And his golf clubs were always in the trunk of his car just in case! Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 24, at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina, (952-929-1697), with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Eden Prairie Cemetery. Washburn-McReavy.com Eden Prairie Chapel 952-975-0400
