Mark Van Note

Van Note, Mark 56, of Minneapolis MN, died March 6, 2018, surrounded by family. Mark was husband to Mary Van Note and father to Claire Van Note of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his brother Paul Champion (of Boston), along with several nephews and cousins. Mark was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Van Note and father William Van Note. Mark was born in Newton IA, and attended Newton High School, Stanford University and HEC Paris Business School. He lived and worked in Paris, New York, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. Mark was a lifelong collector of friends, a kind and selfless man, a lover of good wine and good coffee, and possibly the last political moderate left in the country. He had a wicked sense of humor and an optimistic bent. Mark fought valiantly against a rare form of late-stage colon cancer for 2 1/2 years. He lived with cancer in a way that was characteristic of him with grace, stubbornness, and care for his wide circle of family and friends. A funeral service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral on Loring Park (519 Grove St., Minneapolis) on Friday, March 16th at 1 pm, followed by a reception at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (2400 3rd Ave. S., Minneapolis) from 3 to 6 pm.
