Fred Craig Ahlquist

Ahlquist, Fred Craig Died on January 26, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born on August 19, 1948 to Carl and Norma (Grube) Ahlquist. Fred was strongly connected to the Nordeast Community of Minneapolis all his life. He graduated from Edison High School in 1966. He enjoyed his time as a camper, staff and Guide at YMCA Menogyn through the Northeast YMCA. Later he joined the Y's Men's club as an adult. Fred was also active In Sea Scouts, first as a scout and later a leader. Fred was drafted and served as a "Shake and Bake" Sergeant during the Vietnam War in the 101st Airborne Division. Being severely wounded In the war, Fred was retired by the Army. He was proud of his service to his country. He enjoyed many of the 101st Airborne NCO reunions. Fred worked at the family's Central Parlor Frame Company with his grandfather, Walter, Dad and Uncles. Eventually he owned the business. Fred enjoyed spending time at his cabin, hunting, cooking and family time. Fred is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glenn. Surviving family members are his siblings Bruce (Sue), Carolyn, and Clyde (Jill). He was a loving Uncle to Julia (Danny) Tanner, Gunnar (Corrine) Ahlquist, Chris (Gabrlella) Ahlquist, Peter (Emily) Kohler, Cory Ahlquist, Eric Kohler and Aaron Ahlquist. Fred also enjoyed his great nieces and nephews Betsy Tanner, Trinity, Eli, Ian Ahlquist, Axel Ahlquist, Aleksandar and Gabriella Ahlquist. He will be missed by extended family and the many friends Fred considered family. On February 23, 2018, a Military Interment Service will be held at 11:00 AM at the Fort Snelling Cemetery, Assembly Area #5, 7601 - 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis. A Memorial Service with lunch will follow at 12:30 PM at the Northeast United Methodist Church, 2510 Cleveland Street N.E., Minneapolis, MN 65418. The church will be open at 12:00 PM.
