Hanson, Jerald "Jerry" Age 70, of Brooklyn Park, passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2018. Jerry is survived by wife, Kay (nee Dvorak), daughters Juli (Randy) Denny and Jackye Severts, son Nick (Vette) Hanson, grandchildren Jackson, Raegan and Lauren Denny, Bailey and Isaac Severts and step-grandchildren Bethany Hurtig, Ryan Toon and Emmalee Toon. Preceded in death by parents Jasper and Ella Hanson and sister, Diane Jorgensen. Jerry was born in Pelican Rapids, MN. While attending high school, Jerry achieved the level of Eagle Scout and also received the Bronze Palm. He also served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 326 in Pelican Rapids. Jerry graduated from Moorhead State College. He taught English at Verndale High School his entire career. In addition to teaching, Jerry loved directing the school plays and was involved with several sports teams, especially football. Jerry did the football team stats each year and created highlight reel videos set to music. He was a favorite teacher who continued to hear from former students whose lives he impacted throughout his life. Jerry served in the Army and later the Minnesota Army National Guard for 26 years. He was an instructor at the Minnesota Military Academy at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, MN, where his specialty was desert warfare. He received numerous achievement medals and awards during his years of service. Jerry had many passions including classic cars, sports, politics and cryptic crosswords. Funeral Services 1:00 PM Monday, January 29 at DISCOVER CHURCH, 1400 81st Ave., N., Brooklyn Park (visitation 12:00-1:00 at the church). Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Minneapolis.
