Joyce McGown

McGown, Joyce Elizabeth Joyce was born 1927 in Anoka, MN, to James and Delia Brooks. Joyce was gentle soul, with a kind heart. She was raised on a farm with 2 older sisters and graduated from Anoka High School in 1946. Her dream in life was to have a large family. She married Lester McGown in 1948, and started building that dream. Joyce and Lester made their home in St. Louis Park, MN and were soon the proud parents of 5 sons and 2 daughters. She took the endless bumps, bruises, and squabbles in stride and provided the calmness and clarity of mind to unify the family and make them thrive. She was a master baker, amazing cook, skilled seamstress, nurse, Den Mother, avid reader, writer of stories and political activist. As her children grew, Joyce went back to school to become a nurse. She worked for many years in the Cancer Treatment Unit at Methodist Hospital. Treasured by her coworkers, she loved her patients and they loved her back. Preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and husband. Joyce is survived by her children Dennis (Tammi), Robert (Karen), Marjorie, Daniel (Nola), Roger, George, and Barbara (Rick), grandchildren Faith, Amy, Kristin, Paul, Abbigail, Hillary, Laurie, Hannah, Adam, Brooks, Emily, Jesse, Christian, Noelani, Kendra, Sam, 10 great -grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24 from 5-8pm at Gearty Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Ave. S., St. Louis Park, MN. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am, Thursday, January 25, with visitation 1 hour prior to service, at The Church of the Holy Family, 5900 W. Lake St., St. Louis Park MN.
