Tim Vande Steeg

Vande Steeg, Tim 46, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 9th, 2018 at his home in Los Angeles, CA. One of the Minnesota Vikings greatest fans is now permanently seated 8 rows up at the 50 yard line. What brought Tim unspeakable joy, besides his Vikings, was spending time with a little boy named Noakai in California. There is a brick with his name and Noakai's at the Viking's new stadium. Our grief is great because Tim was young, gifted and had more important work to share with the world. Tim was a Minnesota native, born in Minneapolis to Mary Markham and Ken Vande Steeg, and raised in Bloomington by his mother Mary with his younger brother Chad. Tim studied film at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). He created IndieWood Pictures with his motto; Be powerfulbe unstoppable! Tim will be remembered for the love for his family, his love of the Minnesota Vikings, his quality documentaries and his ability to motivate everyone around him! As a filmmaker he was committed to sharing the truth of the lives of people most of us never see or think about. Tim screened more films at Twin City Film Festival than any other filmmaker. Tim was an award-winning filmmaker based in LA and truly embodied the Midwest work ethic. After the courageous "My Run," his work to raise awareness of the challenges of single parenting, he continued with his feature documentary films screen-ed at Twin Cities Film Fest; TCFF's Best Documentary "Iron Will: Veterans Battle with PTSD," Midsouth Emmy Award-winning "Hunger in America," "Autism in America," and "Eyes of Thailand." Tim is preceded in death by his younger brother Chad, whom he loved dearly, and grandparents and great grandparents whom he never forgot to mention. Tim had an expansive group of friends and colleagues in both Minnesota and California, including Noakai and his mother Annabel, who will miss him deeply. Tim is survived by his loving mother Mary Markham, who raised him and to whom he was devoted to his entire life, his father Ken Vande Steeg (wife Julie), half siblings Erin and Mark, and many aunties, uncles, and cousins. The service will be Friday January 26 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave. S. in Bloomington, MN. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, service at 11 AM, followed by lunch and sharing memories of Tim. Although flowers are dearly appreciated, memorials preferred to the family.
