Christian Wilbur 'Pete' Peters

Peters, Christian Wilbur "Pete" 95 of Charlotte, NC and Sun Lakes, AZ, went home to eternal life to join his wife Bessie on January 1, 2018. Pete was born on December 16, 1922 to Cornelius and Tina Peters of Hospers, IA. He met Bessie at Northwestern College, Orange City, IA and they married the day after his 21st birthday! Pete completed a degree in industrial engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1947. Pete and Bess lived in multiple cities, following his career path over the years. In 1959 they moved their family to Minneapolis and began the fairytale success story of Minnesota Fabrics. Pete and Bess were great business partners and grew the business to 100 stores in the upper mid-east and mid-west. They always refused to have their stores open on Sundays, believing that they and their employees should devote that day to God. Pete and Bess had wished for a future as missionaries, but found that developing a business to support missionaries was where God wanted them, and established the P&B Foundation using the proceeds from their business to fund missionary work around the world. Pete was chairman of the Board of Deacons at Fourth Baptist Church of Minneapolis, MN for many years as well as at the Northside Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC, following the move of the Minnesota Fabrics business HQ to Charlotte in 1977. In all he did, Pete sought to honor his God and lived his faith each and every day. Following Bessie's death in 2010, he felt led to move to Phoenix, AZ to live with his daughter Judy and her husband Tim. The family time and fellowship helped salve his loneliness, but in 2012, the Lord led him to Theta Mead and following a whirlwind romance and courtship they married at the Sun Lakes Baptist Church in Sun Lakes, AZ. They had five wonderful years together, sharing their lives and their love for each other. Pete is survived by his wife, Theta Peters, his son Roger Peters and wife Carrie, his daughter Judy Van Essen and husband Tim Taylor, and grandchildren Danielle (Kreg) Jones, Karen (Jason) Van Essen, Tracy (Jason) Egeline, Ellen (John) Ward, Marianne (Nick) Peters, Luke (Desi) Peters and Lisa (Noah) Peters. Burial will be private at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte on Saturday, January 27. James Funeral Home of Hunters-ville, NC is serving the family.
