After attending her prom, a North St. Paul high school senior was found unresponsive and later died at a hospital Saturday night, the school district confirmed Sunday.

In statements from principal Greg Nelson and North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Superintendent Christine Osorio, the teen was identified as 18-year-old Anna Jaskulka.

"We are truly saddened by the loss of Anna Jaskulka, Anna was a student with a bright personality and kind heart," Nelson said in a statement. "She will be deeply missed."

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said officers were called to a home in the 2300 block of Schadt Drive at 11:08 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, the 18-year-old was in full cardiac arrest, Schnell said.

First responders tried to revive the teen and she was taken to Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury where she was pronounced dead.

Schnell said Jaskulka's parents drove her home that night from prom, which was at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul. Her parents had seen her 15 minutes before she was found unresponsive, he said.

Schnell said it was "readily clear" the teen had been drinking alcohol.

Authorities are investigating whether other substances played a role in her death. An autopsy is to be performed Monday. The case remains under investigation.

In an e-mail sent to families Sunday morning, Osorio said extra counselors will be available at the high school for support.
