Cottages of Cass Gilbert

The White Bear Lake Historical Society will discuss the work of Minnesota architect Cass Gilbert in an illustrated program. Speakers will discuss Gilbert's early career designing homes and other buildings around the White Bear Lake area, some of which still stand. 6 p.m. Jan. 22. North Metro H&G show

Residents of Blaine, Fridley and other cities in the north metro can attend an event that showcases local home improvement specialists. Kris Lindahl of Re/Max Results will offer a keynote seminar on real estate. Garden workshops

Your garden may be dormant for the winter, and your shrubs may be covered with ice and snow, but it's never too early to start planning for the spring. Green living

Make a resolution to reduce your carbon footprint this year, with help from Nokomis Green Fair. Organizations including Minneapolis Recycles, Minnesota Food Association and others will share tips on how to green up your life.
