Police from several north metro communitieis brought a standoff with an armed man to a peaceful end Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a grade school, authorities said Wednesday.

The 45-year-old man, from Coon Rapids, was thought to be suicidal and had just left his home in a pickup truck with a loaded handgun, police said.

His truck was spotted near Hanson Boulevard and 108th Avenue NW. in Coon Rapids, where police tried to stop him. He took off and intentionally hit two Coon Rapids police squad cars during the pursuit.

He came to a stop at Lino Lakes Elementary School, in the 700 block of Main Street in Lino Lakes, where a one-hour standoff ended with his peaceful surrender to law enforcement from Coon Rapids, Blaine, Lino Lakes and Anoka County.
