A man died late Wednesday night in north Minneapolis after he was found unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

Police went to the scene after a call about shots fired shortly before midnight. The man was unconscious on the ground near 3rd Street and 26th Avenue N., police said.

Resuscitation efforts failed and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release Thursday. Police have not released the man's name or the cause of death. No one is in custody.

The shooting was in the general neighborhood of two other slayings earlier this week -- one on the 3300 block of Girard Avenue N. and the other on the 3900 block of Dupont Avenue N.

"There's no reason to think any of them are connected," Sgt. Stephen McCarty said, but he added that the motives were under investigation.
