OTHER NEW FACES

The Vikings have two other new assistant coaches. They are …

Darrell Hazell

Receivers coach

Hazell played receiver at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, from 1982-85. He began coaching a year later as running backs coach at Oberlin (Ohio) College. He has spent three decades in coaching, but his only season in the NFL before now was in 1998 as an intern coaching receivers for the Raiders.

Hazell spent the past six seasons as a head coach at Kent State from 2011-12 and Purdue from 2013-16. He went 11-3 as Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 but was 9-33 at Purdue before being fired. He replaces George Stewart, who had coached Vikings receivers since 2006.

Clancy Barone

Tight ends coach

Barone was an offensive lineman at the University of Nevada and Sacramento State in the early 1980s. He also has three decades of coaching experience, all on the offensive side of the ball.

Barone came to Minnesota after eight seasons with the Broncos. He coached Denver's tight ends (2009, 2011-14) and offensive line (2010, 2015-16). In 2015, he helped a young line overcome injuries en route to winning Super Bowl 50.

Barone also coached tight ends or offensive line with the Falcons (2004-06) and Chargers (2007-08). In 14 NFL seasons, he has been a part of teams that have won eight division titles and gone to two Super Bowls.

Barone also coached 17 years in the college ranks at American River Community College in California, Sacramento State, Texas A&M, Eastern Illinois, Wyoming, Houston and Texas State.
