A bicyclist was struck from behind by a motorist and killed after dark on a Wright County highway, authorities said this week.
The collision occurred in Monticello, Minn., about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy. 25 near Kjellberg Court, the State Patrol said.
The bicyclist was identified as 17-year-old Ian L. Rogers of Monticello, the patrol said. The agency said Rogers was not wearing a helmet.
The car's driver, Carla M. Hemminger, 25, of St. Cloud, was not hurt.
Rogers was riding in the left of two northbound lanes of the divided highway when Hemminger hit him, the patrol said.
Rogers would have been a member of the class of 2020 at Monticello High School, according to North Wright County Today. The school district released this statement:
"Ian will be remembered fondly as a kindhearted, loving friend that built strong connections and deep relationships with peers and staff members across ISD 882. The district will be extending full support to any students that are grieving the loss of Ian."
On Friday, the Hennepin County medical examiner released the name of another bicyclist who died this week, 10 days after crashing in Bloomington.
Robert Edward Anderson, 54, of Eagan, was critically injured just after 7 a.m. Aug. 9 in a crash at 3750 E. American Blvd., authorities said. He died early Monday at HCMC of multiple blunt-force injuries, the medical examiner said.
According to Anderson's online obituary, he died while biking to work, something he loved to do.
Bloomington police are investigating.
