After Minnesota United beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium, the usual postmatch festivities ensued.
Oasis' "Wonderwall" played. Defender Justin Davis chugged a beer with the fans in the supporters' section. All things United started during its North American Soccer League days.
But the players added a new element after this second Major League Soccer win. As the fans cheered and sang in the stands, the players all formed a line, joined hands and ran toward the supporters' section, raising their hands all together in a celebratory "woo!"
According to goal-scorer Miguel Ibarra, that wasn't premeditated.
"No, actually we all just decided to get together and just do it," Ibarra said, adding he thinks this will become a staple after home wins. "Just for the fans, it's really important to get them involved."
Coach Adrian Heath said the formal show of gratitude wasn't something he could do back in his playing days.
"I used to be too tired to be singing and dancing with the crowd," Heath said.
