Loons facing a beatable side in Earthquakes
Preview: Minnesota United (2-4-2) has a good chance to start its first winning streak and record another clean sheet Saturday as the San Jose Earthquakes (2-3-3) haven't scored in more than 180 minutes. San Jose has only eight goals in eight matches so far this season, sitting just one point ahead of eighth-place United at sixth in the Western Conference standings. The team is also winless in the past six matches, which is the second-longest run in MLS.
Players to watch: San Jose and U.S. national team forward Chris Wondolowski is a former Golden Boot winner. He has 121 goals in his 18-year MLS career.
Connections: United right-back Jerome Thiesson and San Jose midfielder Jahmir Hyka were teammates at FC Luzern for six seasons. United assistant coach Mark Watson held multiple coaching positions at San Jose, including head coach, from 2010-14. United forward Abu Danladi and San Jose midfielder Jackson Yueill, also a Bloomington native, were teammates at UCLA before being drafted this year.
Injuries: Midfielder Rasmus Schuller (hip) is questionable while midfielder Bernardo Anor (leg) and defender Thomas de Villardi (Achilles' tendon) are out. Defenders Marvell Wynne (heart) and Harold Cummings (leg), midfielders Marc Pelosi (knee) and Simon Dawkins (knee) as well as forward Quincy Amarikwa (knee) are out for San Jose.
