Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Thursday afternoon lying in the median of northbound Hwy. 169 at Canterbury Road in Shakopee.

A passerby called 911 just before 3 p.m. to report seeing what appeared to be a body lying in the median.

Shakopee police arrived and confirmed the body's presence. State Patrol troopers also came to the scene, and soon requested help from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The Minnesota BCA will lead the investigation.

According to a BCA news release, there was a three-car crash near the same location about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday that the State Patrol and Shakopee police responded to.

"It has not yet been determined whether the two incidents are related," the BCA said.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the man's name after an autopsy.
