Minnesota United FC, in a soccer match that went from a likely scoreless draw to a possible defeat to a brush with victory, salvaged a 2-2 road tie with OKC Rayo on Saturday night at Miller Stadium.
League goal-scoring leader Christian Ramirez gave United FC a brief 2-1 lead — its only lead of the night — after Ibson shredded the defense and fed him for a left-footed strike in the second minute of injury time, his 12th goal of the season. But the match was level again when defender Futty Danso scored about a minute later.
United (3-1-1), which had won its previous two NASL matches, outshot Rayo 14-9 but fell behind in the 60th minute when forward Devon Sandoval, on loan from Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer, was credited with a goal when a header by Danso glanced off Sandoval's head and sailed past Steward Ceus, who was making his second consecutive start in goal for the Loons.
But United FC struck back and got the tying score in the 71st minute when defender Justin Davis, also on a header, scored off a cross from Danny Cruz.
Rayo (3-1-3) ran its home unbeaten streak to six. OKC, playing without four regulars, also beat the Loons 1-0 in June, a loss that hurt United's run toward the spring playoffs.
