A man was found shot to death Thursday morning on a south Minneapolis street, authorities said. No arrests have been made.

Officers were called about 8:15 a.m. to E. 24th Street and Oakland Avenue S. on a report of a gunshot, said police spokesman John Elder.

When they arrived, the man was in the road on Oakland with a gunshot wound, Elder said.

About three hours later, authorities removed the body from the scene. The man's identity has yet to be released.

Officers are canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with residents about what they might have seen or heard, Elder said.

Several blocks surrounding the intersection were taped off by police hours after the killing.

Members of the police department's community support team were at the scene to help people dealing with their grief. Officers will provide more community engagement in the area, the department said.

"People are strongly encouraged to interact with these officers and share any information they may have," the department said.
