The man found dead outside a St. Paul residence in below-zero temperatures on New Year's Day has been identified as Mario Folkner.

Folkner worked at Mama's Pizza for more than 10 years, his employer said in a Facebook post.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news with our friends that our employee Mario Folkner has passed away," the post read. "His presence and talents will always be remembered in our hearts."

Police were called to the 700 block of Aurora Avenue in the Summit-University neighborhood around 11:30 a.m. Monday. Paramedics arrived and pronounced Folkner dead, police said.

"He was found outside exposed to the conditions," said police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster. The cause of death will be determined by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.

Folkner was known for his big smile according to many of the more than 150 people who left condolences on the pizza parlor's Facebook page.

"To all of his friends and co-workers at Mama's thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers," Folkner's mother, Cheryl, wrote. "He loved all the people he got to meet."
