A man who drove around the state thinking about killing his sister went to the Crosby, Minn., senior living facility where she worked as a cook and stabbed her several times with a knife, according to murder charges filed Tuesday.
David Michael Otey, 37, left Cambridge, Minn., where he lived, at 6:45 a.m. Saturday and showed up unexpectedly at Heartwood Senior Living Center, where his sister Danyele Marie Johnson, 38, was working in the kitchen.
Johnson let her brother in and he helped her prepare food for 30 minutes.
Then Otey took a knife and began stabbing Johnson, according to second-degree murder charges filed in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd.
When Crosby police officers arrived around 8 a.m., they found Otey kneeling on the floor. Johnson's body was lying in a pool of blood, according to court documents.
The Ramsey County medical examiners office ruled it a homicide.
During police questioning, Otey said he had driven around Friday night thinking about killing his sister. He confessed to killing her and said he also thought about killing other people.
According to local media reports, Otey's first court appearance was Tuesday and his bail was set at $3 million.
He is being held in Crow Wing County jail.
