A 25-year-old man has been charged with killing his older brother in their Plymouth apartment after an argument about rent money, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday.
Garrett B. Ittel was charged with two counts of second-degree intentional murder in the stabbing death of Jamison Ittel, 27, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office.
The brothers, who were originally from Champlin, were drinking in their Plymouth apartment late Monday and early Tuesday when they started arguing about rent money, the charging documents said.
Garrett Ittel told police that he went to his dresser drawer, got a knife, brought it back to the kitchen and stabbed his brother in the chest. Then, he told police, "I chased him down and stabbed him again," according to the criminal complaint.
At one point, Jamison Ittel called their mother and told her that he had been stabbed. He then grabbed a blanket from the couch, left the apartment and headed toward the front steps of the apartment building.
Plymouth police were called to the Stoneleigh at the Reserve complex on the 5300 block of Annapolis Lane after midnight and found Garrett Ittel standing over the body of his older brother. Jamison Ittel died at the scene.
According to the complaint, investigators found the knife, and blood in the kitchen, Ittel's bedroom and a bathroom where it appeared someone had tried to clean up.
Investigators spoke with the brothers' mother, who had called 911. She told him that the brothers had called to tell her they were fighting and that she had advised them to go to their separate rooms for the night.
Garrett Ittel, who is in the Hennepin County jail, is expected to make his first court appearance Friday.
