Heavy rain, wind and hail are expected overnight across much of central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities area, the National Weather Service said Sunday night.
A flash flood watch was issued through Monday afternoon for most of the southern half of Minnesota, including the metro area. Two to four inches of rain is likely across much of the area, especially in southwestern Minnesota, with more possible in some spots, the Weather Service said, and torrential rainfall Monday morning could result in flash flooding.
A severe thunderstorm watch was also in place for southwestern and central Minnesota. The watch covers 33 counties in Minnesota, including Hennepin, Anoka and Ramsey in the metro area.
Forecasters predict some areas may have damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles an hour and large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, according to the Weather Service.
