Foul play has been ruled out in a west metro house fire that killed a 69-year-old Vietnam War veteran who ran his own business, authorities said.

David J. Reuter, of Watertown, died Sept. 13 when his home in the 400 block of Franklin Avenue NW. caught fire, according to the Carver County Sheriff's Office.

"At this time, there is no reason to believe the cause of the fire was intentional," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday.

Reuter died from smoke inhalation, according to the medical examiner's office.

Reuter entered the Army and served throughout most of 1967 and 1968 before being honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

He owned and operated Dave's Upholstery in downtown Watertown. Reuter leaves behind a wife, two daughters and four grandchildren.
