One of the victims in a string of post-holiday shootings over the weekend in Minneapolis has died, police announced Tuesday.
While authorities wouldn't identify who was killed, a police report indicates the victim was a 16-year-old boy and one of two people who was shot near North 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue in downtown early Sunday.
A little after 2 a.m. Sunday, officers on foot patrol heard gunshots and saw a crowd of people running from the area. Police found two men with gunshot wounds.
Both were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, one with "very serious" injuries and the other with noncritical injuries, said Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder. The teenager likely died Monday night, Elder said.
Cody Ulstad, 24, said he was exiting a club when he "heard what sounded like fireworks" and realized that he had been shot in the leg. He said he did not know where the shots came from.
The Hennepin County medical examiner's office will release the teenager's identity and his cause of death, police say.
As of early Tuesday night, no arrests have been made in the shooting, which is the 23rd homicide in the city so far this year. Authorities have asked for witnesses to step forward and share what they know.
"We know there were a lot of people around at the time of the shooting who fled," Elder said.
Police reports show that there were at least 10 people who were shot throughout the city early Sunday.
