Two Minneapolis residents were treated for serious injuries after a collision with a Metro Transit squad car Friday night that caused their car to strike the Hennepin County Medical Center building.

Rahma M. Hassan, 24, and Amina M. Jama, 30, were taken inside the hospital after their Suzuki Forenza collided with a Metro Transit squad car as it responded to an emergency call around 10:30 p.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the squad car had lights and sirens activated as it drove to respond to a Metro Transit bus driver who activated a silent alarm. The squad car was northbound on Park Avenue when it crashed into the Suzuki traveling east on S. 8th Street, causing the Suzuki to hit the Hennepin County Medical Center building.

Two Metro Transit officers were also treated for noncritical injuries. The State Patrol said it is still investigating the crash and that it will release the names of the officers involved on Sunday.
