I watched the State of the Union speech last night in total amazement. It was a jumble of multiple themes, but my conclusion is that the president has doubled down on his change agenda despite strong, clear messages in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts that we do not want the change he is proposing. After hearing the president's State of the Union address, I have this to offer to our elected officials, state and federal: From now until November, I will judge you on what you do to improve the current situation. I am not interested in what party you belong in, that party's rhetoric or in its ability to score political points. If you are solely interested in getting reelected, then you are not governing the country or the state well. It is time to address the many issues facing the country. It is time to make some hard decisions. JASON WITTAK, MAPLE GROVE
