Delta goes purple

Delta Air Lines has revealed new uniforms for its flight attendants and ticket agents, updating their wardrobe for the first time in 10 years. Designer Zac Posen, of "Project Runway" fame, styled the new uniforms. While the new colors — plum, graphite and cardinal — are more adventurous, the cuts remain classically fitted and modest. Posen's collection plays off the nostalgia and luxury of midcentury air travel while remaining firmly planted in the airline industry's conservative dress style. "We wanted Delta employees to look glamorous on the job without sacrificing functionality and style," Posen said in a statement.

Thailand mourns a king

The death of Thailand's revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej has plunged the Southeast Asian nation into an unprecedented period of mourning, and it's likely to stay that way for some time. Concerts and colossal beach parties in Thailand have been canceled. An annual festival meant to placate the country's goddess of water with lanterns that float into the sky will not take place. And closed for the first time in years: the red-light districts in Bangkok. But the closings and cancellations are unlikely to last more than a month, or have any serious long-term impact on tourism.

A night in Dracula's castle

Dracula's castle will have overnight guests on Halloween, marking the first time since 1948 that anyone has slept in the Transylvanian fortress. The site's actual name is Bran Castle, and two people will get to sleep there Oct. 31 thanks to a promotion by Airbnb. The guests will be wined and dined, then left alone to lie down in red velvet-trimmed coffins just as Dracula did in the Bram Stoker novel. The Airbnb contest to find guests ends this Wednesday. Winners will be flown to Romania and then taken to the castle set dramatically in the Carpathian Mountains. If they're too spooked to sleep in the coffins, beds are on hand.

Native destinations

The American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association has created an online guide and interactive map that highlights American Indian travel destinations and experiences in 12 U.S. regions. Browse a visual gallery of activities and events such as "Explore the Hopi Arts Trail" in the Southwest or "Rafting the Wild Buffalo Rapids" in the Rocky Mountains. You can even go on a tour in Alaska to hear the "10,000-Year-Old Song of the Sitka Tribe." Each experience has links to nearby accommodations and local travel resources. You can even create a bucket list to keep track of places or events you might like to go to (online at nativeamerica.travel).
