Josephine McHale, the mother of Houston Rockets' coach Kevin McHale, died Tuesday night in Hibbing at age 86. McHale, the former Timberwolves coach and executive, has left the Rockets to return to Minnesota for her funeral.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that Josephine McHale is survived by four children, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.

McHale's daughter, Sasha, a graduate of Totino Grace in Fridley, died from complications from lupus in November 2012.

Rockets star James Harden told the Houston Chronicle: "He is our leader. He is our mentor. It's a sad story for his family. We are praying for him and hoping he can come back soon, whenever he is ready.
