• Eighteen-year-old central midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez was named to the Liga MX Best XI by Mexican sports newspaper Record. Gonzalez, a California native, is eligible to play for both the U.S. and Mexico but has thus far chosen to play for U.S. youth national teams. If he continues on to play for the senior national team, which he could do as soon as January, the U.S. would have quite the teenage midfield trio, with Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic also in the fold.
• Eight candidates received the required nominations for the post of U.S. Soccer Federation president, with the winner of February's election replacing Sunil Gulati. Regardless of who is elected, it's likely that the new president won't have the same power over the national teams as Gulati did, as the organization will likely appoint a full-time general manager for national teams.
• Video replay continues to spread. France's Ligue 1 has announced that it will join the list of instant-replay leagues next season. The technology, which is already in use in Germany, Italy and the United States, has drawn mixed reviews at best. But with France and Spain set to come on board next season, replay seems likely to be a fixture of the future in soccer.
