See more of the story

From protests on the streets of Minneapolis to the jubilation of the Rio Olympics, Star Tribune photojournalists bring to life the events that matter to Minnesotans. Join us Nov. 15 at the Walker Art Center for an exclusive presentation of the 2016 Star Tribune Photos of the Year and an in-depth conversation about photography and storytelling with award-winning photographers Brian Peterson and Renée Jones Schneider. The evening event includes hors d'oevres and a cash bar.

Brian, recognized nationally and internationally for his documentary photojournalism, spent more than two weeks in Rio de Janeiro covering the summer Olympics. Renée, who's intimate photography helped tell the story of efforts to curb radicalization among Minnesota's Somali youth, was named 2016 Journalist of the Year by the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists. Brian and Renée will tell the stories behind their images and videos – the challenges they face and strategies they use to get subjects to open up and allow the access that yields memorable photographs.

Advance ticket purchase for Behind the Lens is required. Tickets are available at startribune.com/behindthelens. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate walk-ups on the day of the event.
