Former Gophers head coach Jerry Kill, who was hospitalized over the weekend after suffering a seizure, is back at his assistant coaching job at Rutgers and expected to call plays during Saturday's game against Morgan State.
During a weekly Big Ten conference call, Rutgers coach Chris Ash said:"Jerry is fine, he's back to work, he was in our offices yesterday working. As usual, he'll coach this week, coach the game, and moving forward no concerns at all. It was a minor setback. So we're excited that Jerry is fine and back in the office, back with our football team."
On the nj.com web site, Ash said that he hasn't talked to the team about Kill's situation, downplaying the absence: "There's no real reason to. It's a medical issue that is no different than if a guy was sick and needed to miss work because he was sick. It was something obviously that we all knew could potentially come up. And it did, but Jerry has been through this before.'
Kill resigned from the head coaching job at Minnesota during the 2015 season owing to complications from epilepsy. He served as an assistant in the Kansas State athletic department last year before taking the job as offensive coordinator for Rutgers, which has an 11-game losing streak.
Ash also said: "They don't know what happened. He hasn't had [a seizure] in two years. He's been completely healthy. He was getting his sleep. He's been on a good diet. Obviously when you start to play games the stress level goes up. There's more nights with less sleep and that could contribute to it also. There's a number of things that could've caused it."
