One hummingbird often stakes a claim on a feeder, defending it vigorously against all comers. It's usually males that do this, both adults and juveniles establishing a feeding territory in air space near the feeder. The bird on the left in the first photo is upsidedown in its haste to get away. These are Ruby-throated Hummingbirds moving south, leaving us behind until next May.
